memorial day : white hot

There are many reasons why I am so excited for it to be Memorial Day weekend already...the lake...basking in the sun atop a lovely boat...fabulous company...
Getting down to business, though, my NUMBER ONE reason for excitement regarding the arrival of this weekend is the fact that it marks the legality (at least in the world of fashion) of wearing white! Try as I might, I am never fully successful when it comes to staying true to the "no white post-Labor Day" rule so the fact that I will no longer have to arrive late to fantastic events because I've picked out a fabulous ensemble to wear then realized it was white and had to change into something pre-Memorial Day legal is a huge weight lifted! (Seriously...these are the things that stress me out. Ridiculous, I'm aware.) And while we're embracing every shade and hue of the color white, why not throw in the white-on-white trend as seen on the runway for Alexander Wang Spring 2011....
I love that it's bold, but in such a subtle way you almost have to do a double-take. I never really would have thought about layering white on white, but after seeing it I really kind of like the idea! Here are some white-inspired picks I have chosen for the perfect wardrobe for this weekend...
{Kenneth Jay Lane Gypsy Disco Earrings- $120}
I love love love these. Even if you're still not too convinced about wearing white with white, you can feel good about playing it safe when you throw on these earring with your fav pair of white jeans!
{La Mer Collections Simple Wrap Watch- $88}
Same goes for this watch as with the earrings above- nothing wrong with playing it safe! I love La Mer and I love wrap watches, this piece is Memorial Day perfection.
{Young Fabulous and Broke Range Maxi Dress- 396}
I am absolutely smitten with the maxi dress trend this season, why not add to that and sport one in white! Afraid of looking too "bridal" in a white dress (especially one that's long)? Go for something super casual and made of cotton, if you can. The ties at both shoulders and crochet-detail on this particular one ensures that the gal wearing it isn't mistaken for a newly-wed.
{Wink Nimue Eyelet Shorts- $150}
I've been wanting a pair of white shorts but have been so bored with the same-clean cut styles that I already own. The eyelet detailing on these shorts is absolutely genius and the perfect solution! Gimme.
{Vince Drawstring Linen Pants- $160}
Last but never least, nothing screams "the perfect beach/lake weekend" like a pair of linen pants! (Especially in white...) They're the perfect swim cover-up and simply fabulous for those cooler summer nights.

want want want

On second though...NEED. I follow Stella & Dot on Facebook (shocker) and their post this morning featuring this necklace had me swooning. I DIE for statement pieces, especially the bib necklace (I KNOW I've mentioned my Roberta Freymann obsession more than once on here before...) and this "Festival 'til Dawn" necklace by S&D is total perfection. What a wonderful piece to throw on and fabulously complete a simple jeans-and-a-tee ensemble.

jungle fever

Grab your binoculars and cargo pants...we're going on a SAFARI. (The fashionable kind). Have you shopped in-store or online lately and felt like there should have been a neon sign hanging wherever you were saying, "Welcome to the Jungle"? Well, you're not alone sister. I've always been partial to leopard print, but I wasn't quite sure how I was going to be able to incorporate the entire cargo, army-esque, fiercely animal printed trend into my button-down-and-cardigan wardrobe...that is, until I recently did some searching on my own and voila! Incorporating a little structured jungle madness into any wardrobe is as easy as pie. These are a few pieces I am dying to get my hands on to be a jungle-fever team player...

another etsy discovery

Every once in a while I have to go on an Etsy-hiatus. While I absolutely adore all things vintage and handmade, I am also so easily overwhelmed by the plethora of talent out there that my inner craftinista, if you will, simply shuts down. I am so glad that I took a quick peek back at the site today, though, because I discovered these. I am in love with the hippie-chic, bohemian trend in jewelry that has girls layering their necks, wrists and fingers with necklace after bracelet after ring...and these I love. THESE I ABSOLUTELY LOVE. It's always a little hard to me to part with my Yurman and J. Hardy bracelets that have become everyday classic staple pieces for me to (every once in a while) give in to my inner-boho and throw on a braided wrap bracelet, but after seeing these babies I think I'll manage. I love the creativity of these pieces as well as the fun bit of symbolism.

"The Hamsa is an ancient Middle Eastern amulet symbolizing the Hand of God. In all faiths it is a protective sign. The Hamsa hand can be worn with the fingers pointing up or down and is often paired with an eye symbol, which is a powerful talisman against the evil eye. In addition to averting the gaze of the ayin ha‘ra, or the evil eye, both amulets are believed to offer its owner happiness, luck, health, and prosperity."

odr : resort 2012

One man, one name. Six syllables, fourteen letters. Got it yet? Let a sister help you out- Oscar de la Renta. None other than the Albert Einstein of fashion, de la Renta has finally premiered his Resort 2012 collection. The only man to ever succeed in outdoing himself, this collection features rich summer colors and a style that is absolutely flawless, whether by the pool or on a sophisticated stroll along the beach. I can't say that it was one of my absolute favorite collections...but with the following being my top five picks, you'd never know that to be true...
Is the man a genius, or is the man a GENIUS?

sample sale steals

"Subject: Sample Sale Starts Now! Sender: Kate Spade"
That was about all I needed to read of the email before I fell out of my chair, immediately popped up and sat back down on my chair and clicked on the link for Kate Spade's Sample Sale. Holy bargain, talk about literally feeling like I'm shoplifting an item or two that have been on my "Wish List" for FOREVER. For starters, these lovelies I spotted immediately...
{Pasadena Neda, now $75}
{Devote Mod Leopard Lacey, now $89}
{Nylon Neda, now $59}

Let's be honest, what woman DOESN'T have a Kate Spade zip wallet on her "Wish List"...talk about classic!

Next I spotted these...
{Black-Eyed Susan Necklace, now $75}
{Know the Ropes Necklace, now $109}

Fabulous, just fabulous I tell you. Pieces that are worth the investment (and when the investment's discounted, what do you have to lose!) and will last you a lifetime. DYING.

the new louboutin

In case you haven't noticed (or live under a rock), there's a new kid in town. He goes my the name of Brian Atwood and, following suit with his initials, is pretty badass in my opinion. Among being dubbed countless times as a "talented up-and-coming designer", Atwood's pumps have also been given the title of "the new Louboutins". Don't get me wrong, no one is ever going to be able to fully replace the Louboutin legacy NOR would we have any inclination of wanting them to, but Atwood gives the famous red-soled beauties a pretty good run for their money. Countless celebs have already jumped on the Atwood-train and have been spotted out and about rockin' the new kicks...
...Leighton Meester in a gold, satin, closed-toe pair and Diane Kruger in a teal, suede, peep-toe pair- both are representing Atwood fabulously! (And I've already spotted a pretty dang good Brian Atwood knock-off pair or two available at Lulu's). What do you think- yea or nay to the up-and-coming Brian Atwood trend knocking Louboutin a teensy bit off its pedestal...?

post - hiatus

...Ready or not here I come! Okay, so I promise I was not intentionally trying to play a game of 'hide-and-go-seek' with you this past week. I have now completed all finals, driven twelve hours back home, and unpacked a good majority of my things (closet first, of course). This time of year, the fashion world always seems to be in a sort of lull, taking it's own summer vacay, if you will. It's as if it is the eye of the storm between the two busiest seasons in fashion- spring and fall. Don't let that stop you from finding inspiration on a regular basis, though, and channeling that into what you throw on for the day! Summer is a great time to take advantage of a more laid-back atmosphere...a chance to break the rules of fashion just a little...

missing in action

If only studying actually looked this glamourous and peaceful...unfortunately not. I must, however, extend my apologies for being completely MIA for the past couple of days! It is, in fact, finals week for me you may or may not have to bear with me for a few more days in my absence as I bury my head in a textbook and pack up my entire life to move it 12 hours back home. For now, though, stay fabulous (and patient please!) as I will be back sooner than soon!

cinco de mayo

This year, I celebrated 'cinco de mayo' on cuatro de mayo (as in yesterday). Too much is going on today for me to have enough patience to brave the crowds this evening for dinner at my absolutely fav Mexican restaurant. I do truly love little in between holidays like 'cinco de mayo', though. Such a fun excuse to get dressed up in something fabulous and go out on the town with a group of friends that are equally as fabulous. Had I had enough time this year to do a little shopping pre-cinco (and a few extra zeroes added on to the end of my last paycheck...), this is PRECISELY the ensemble I would have put together! Did I mention I'm an absolute fanatic when it comes to Spanish and tribal prints...oh yes.
{Kenneth Jay Lane Tribal Earrnings- $144}
{Tribal Necklace by Sequin- $145}

{Willow and Clay Beaded Lace Tank- $62}
{ALLSAINTS Aztec Skirt- $299}
{BCBGeneration Aztec Straw Tote- $98}

fresh & exciting

Exciting news to share! I have officially received my first award in blogland! This is just such fun. The sweet (and much too kind) Julie over at Brown Eyed Belle just informed me that I was one of her choices for the "Fresh and Exciting Blog" award, originally created by Kori from Blonde Episodes. I was so thrilled and simply could not wait to pass this sucker along as I have just happened to come upon some fabulous new blogs lately myself! (And who doesn't like receiving an award that leaves them feeling accomplished and appreciated?!!) They are as follows...

1. The Southern Eclectic {Fabulous southern fashion, great writing}
2. STREETFSN {Super street fashion based, love love love}
3. Traditional Girl {Fabulous if you are even the slightest bit fluent in Spanish, if not the pictures are just as inspiring}

Congratulations all!

well said

couture turned costume jewelry

GET EXCITED because the news I have to share with you is almost as beautiful as the piece of jewelry you see before you...Proenza Schouler has plans to launch a new line featuring costume jewelry designed by their genius little fashion-forward brains! Okay, you can breathe now (and, if you're like me, jump up and down 6 or 7 times while squealing). There are plenty of brand spankin' new launches coming up in the fashion world (aren't there always?) but this is absolutely something I am pretty hyped up for as my wardrobe is practically begging for  a much needed piece of costume jewelry! The one featured here is their 'Triple Strand Rope Necklace' and can be found online for a hefty fee. My dire hope (and guess), though, is that the new collection of costume jewelry will have better suited prices tagging along as well! I know nothing yet of the whereabouts and/or further details on this fabulous announcement, but if you have any information please feel more than welcome to share!

april showers bring may flowers

I know all of you are familiar with this very saying that has been reverberating throughout my mind all morning! As of today, May is finally here ladies! I don't know about you, but April literally flew by for me at lightning speed and here we are at the corner of "end of spring" and "almost summer". With the month of May come high points that fashionistas everywhere have been looking forward to- the long-awaited wearing of white as well as beautiful flowers as far as the eye can see that spill over to the floral fabrics that are ever-so-popular this season...
...so break out those floral rompers and maxi dresses and hit the outdoors to embrace the beautiful weather (and clothes) May has brought with it!
(Side Note: May 1st also marks the official availability of Calypso St. Barth's new line for Target, that I have been raving about here!)
