Whew, those last few days of the week flew by for me! But hey, who's complainin'? I have a long weekend of work and studies ahead of me (to balance out last weekend's playtime) but with this beautiful weather hangin' around I'll be able to make it a bit more bearable with the windows open and a walk in between! Have a fabulous weekend ya'll!

weekend recap

My weekend in Kansas City was fabulous and much needed, to say the least. It reminded me of a slightly condensed, more midwestern Atlanta (and we all know how dear Atlanta is to my heart, love!) and the entire weekend proved to be relaxing with plenty of good company, good shopping, and good food! The drive over was a hop, skip and a jump from where I'm living and completely painless with my sweet friend Page in the car with me! Arriving on our dear friend Georganne's doorstep in a darling neighborhood close to her campus was simply delightful. Georgie, Page and I then proceeded to spend a mellow evening watching Bridesmaids (HILARIOUS. If you haven't seen yet you have my permission to drop everything and Red Box that baby...but don't forget to come back). The next day consisted of coffee, shopping, shopping, art fair, lunch, shopping and...more shopping, without a doubt. These two stores treated me too well, mind you...
Upon embarking for The Plaza to commence our shopping extraordinaire, my budget-friendly conscience reminded me to keep from going over the top in terms of spending like there's no tomorrow (good conscience). One of the best ways for me to keep my spending habits at bay is to really think about what I need, not want. Staple pieces are the best to purchase, clothing that is timeless and classic and going to last a lifetime (well...maybe not a lifetime, but at least for a while). Worried about staying current? Incorporating trends is always something that is easily done with accessories added to classics. With that in mind, I set out to purchase only those few staple pieces that I was lacking, and for the most part I was pretty successful! (I did fall victim to a few sales, dang sneaky!)
Hope everyone's weekend was fabulous and week to be just as fabulous!

and the winner is...

Uh, that would be Christian Dior worn by the lovely Minka Kelly, thank you.
When it came to this Sunday's Emmy's, this was by far my favorite look of the evening. I would say "for whatever reason..." but I can, in fact, list the exact reasons for you why this Dior gown stole the show for me.

1. Navy + Black. Still LOVING this color combo. I first saw it worn by Olivia Palermo and couldn't get enough of it. Throw that rule book out the window!
2. The lace. Happy to see this embellishment sticking around as well. And it's the epitome of all feminine of course I'm dying (shocking, I know).
3. Sleeves. Clearly the fact that I'm still drawn to a gown with a simple sleeve hasn't gone away (reference here) and after this ensemble it sure isn't going away anytime soon, either.
4. Simplicity. (I'll keep the supportive reasoning to a minimum as well...bottom line: less is more.)

There ya have it, ladies and gents.

nyfw favs final volume : jason wu

Jason Wu. Resort 2012.
Lusting over this collection wholeheartedly. The first thing I fell in love with about this collection were the clean lines and the utter simplicity that makes each piece so fabulous! The color combinations, as well, fell in line with my love for the color story this year with each collection on the runway! Jason Wu brought the epitome of preppy-chic to life with each piece (right in line with J.Crew's runway appearance during Fashion Week as well...also loved) in his Resort 2012 compilation. Throw me on an island with any one of these ensembles and I'm a happy girl.

nyfw favs volume II : odlr

Oscar de la Renta. Spring 2012 RTW.
I mean, what girl could compile their list of New York Fashion Week favs without inevitably including the runway genius of Oscar himself. (This girl, I'll tell you that's who.) Not only will I go to my deathbed still praising this man for his fabulous talent in emphasizing the beauty and femininity of every woman, I don't think he could ever fail in his design. I especially love the color story of this collection- neons+neutrals. Thrilled to see these two sticking around for a while. And of course, I'm always lusting over the feminine detailing of each runway piece reppin' the de la Renta name. Gorgeous.

nyfw favs volume I : tory burch

I think every blogger in the universe has shared their top favorite runway collections from the present New York Fashion Week and I just couldn't stand to miss out on the fun! However, instead of cramming all of my picks into one post (and also to buy myself time because I am having a rough go of trying to choose a top three!!...) I am going to split them up into a series of two or three postings. Commence round one.
Tory Burch. Resort 2012.
First things first, how thrilled am I that the maxi skirt is not only carrying it's weight through this fall, but through the coming spring as well! (I know I know, "We're talking about spring already?! Ugh, vom." All I can tell you is welcome to the runway and embrace it darlin', it's going nowhere anytime soon.) Tory's white blouse and maxi ensemble was the first to have me swooning, and it was a complete lack of oxygen to my brain after that. LOVING that bright hues are remaining...especially regarding those fabulous trousers! The button up in the third pic here I feel is classic Tory Burch; red pattern with navy trim and gold button detailing, I would expect nothing less. And boat shoes, boat shoes, boat shoes oh my! So many models were sporting this preppy shoe and I couldn't be more thrilled. Some of the looks by Tory even have me wanting to call her...dare I say it...a modern-day Chanel! Well, 'Chanel-inspired' may be better wording. There is only one Chanel, but to have anyone reminded of queen Coco from your runway collection is a complement if you ask me.
Thoughts? Who were your favs?

all out battle for missoni know where this is going. It is a well known fact that today, September 13, was the launch of Missoni's designer collaborative collection with Target. Sweaters, skirts, housewares galore! It was a feast for the least it would have been had any of the merchandise lasted more then three seconds on store shelves. I, like an idiot, thought that I would avoid braving the crowds and visit my nearest Target later in the day rather than wait in line like it's Black Friday at 5am. (Note to self: Do NOT underestimate the direct rewards from waiting in line like it's Black Friday at 5am.) Ultimately, too, I actually avoided nothing. When I arrived, not only was anything Missoni out of sight but the crowds were still there picking over what was left like vultures. When I say that I have BATTLE WOUNDS from taking the very last fabulous Missoni sweater from the shelves, I am so not exaggerating. But here's the beauty I managed to snag...
...fabulous right? I'm envisioning a little JBrand skinnies + brown riding boots action going on with this number. Perfection.

look for less

Rosie Huntington has been photographed many a time (especially recently) in her Chloe braided ankle strap ballerina flats, and who can blame her? I would wear these babies every day of the week should I ever be able to drop $400 on a pair of shoes. In the meantime, I was just delighted to stumble upon this stunningly chic look-alike pair from Urban! At a mere $19.99 on final sale (but plenty of sizes still left!), these may just be my new everyday flat!

Have you found any fabulous 'looks for less' lately?

it's here!

Woohoo! We made it! For a four-day week...this one sure dragged on!
My life is currently a balancing act that I'm barely managing to keep stable and while I would love for blogging to be first in line on my priorities list, it doesn't always end up that way. Please bear with me and I promise to make appearances more often and consistently! Ya'll have a most fabulous weekend.

op + piperlime

Yep, it was only a matter of time. We all knew it. Olivia Palermo (and freaking RACHEL BILSON aaand Byrdie Bell) has just teamed up with Piperlime to become one of their newest guest editors! Ecstatic? Yes. Immediately purchasing items after this post? Definitely. The infamous Rachel Zoe has been a guest editor for the site for a while now and her "picks" are always spot on. OP is sure to be a great addition and already has me dying over a couple pieces...

The fact that they're all neutral in color has no other significance other than the fact that I'm entirely too obsessed with neutral shades. It's a borderline problem...but really.

" we all get dressed for bill "

This afternoon I ventured to the cute little indy theater in the heart of The District, the downtown area of my hometown, with my dear friends Georgie and Page to see the new documentary, "Bill Cunningham New York". Detailing the life and work of fashion photographer Bill Cunningham, this film is truly an enchanting look into the life of the charming Bill Cunningham and his ability to capture street style with unmatched talent. Cunningham is a young eighty-something photographer...and pretty stinkin' cute. He's got charm that reminds everyone in the movie theater audience of their grandfather while remaining incredibly sharp and whitty. Cunningham's eye for fashion is truly a gift and one that models and magazine editors alike (including the fashion god herself, Anna Wintor) marvel at. This movie is a gem and one that was truly a treat to see. If you've got a spare hour or two in the next few days and have a theater near you showcasing this film, you won't be disappointed!

In the words of Bill, "Fashion is...the armor to survive the reality of everyday life."

familiarity is sounding...

It wasn't long ago that I wrote a quick little snippet here regarding Maria Sharapova and her fabulously fashionable eye off the court, so you can imagine by delight when I came across this article headlining the front page of Fashionista (a genius little fashion blog, if there ever was one). Titled, "In Honor of the US Open, Here's a Look Back at Fashion's Love Affair with Tennis", the article documents the most stylin' ladies of the court as well as tennis' influence on fashion. What's that you say? Ahead of my time? What can I say, my fashion gut for posting never fails me! (Alright, enough self gloating. Our articles do take slightly different paths...still, both are surrounding the same topic. Proud blogger over here!) Read away!
