like a princess

In case you've been no where to be found in the last week, it is pretty clear that everyone on. the. planet. is pretty hyped up for the Royal Wedding that will take place tomorrow- April 29, 2011. I can't deny it...I am absolutely one of those fanatics! Unfortunately, an exam taking place at the lovely hour of 8AM is preventing me from waking up at o' dark-thirty to partake in the "Royal Wedding watch party" just down the hall from me (tea and scones included). Instead, I'll have to settle for a lovely little post about what an absolute trendsetter Kate Middleton has become in the fashionable world of head frocks! If you've seen pretty much any picture of Kate Middleton recently (or not recently) you've probably already noticed that the princess-to-be loves her head pieces...and I mean LOVES. But who can blame her? Girl know's how to rock a little hair glam...

boho by zoe

Something I absolutely LOVE to indulge in is reading Rachel Zoe's 'The Zoe Report' on (pretty much) a daily basis. Zoe provides utterly fabulous product reports and shares her flawless eye for style with readers everywhere. Recently The Zoe Report shared twenty of Zoe's favorite 70's-inspired boho picks and here are the three that ultimately caught my eye...
{Tom Ford Sonja Sunglasses, $360}
Here's what Zoe has to say about them, "Larger than life sunnies? Yes please! Tom Ford's Sonja pair earns bonus points for their ombre fade and knot detailing."
{Twenty8Twelve Knit Mini, $280}
I am absolutely lusting over this one. Zoe says, "Pair this colorful crochet treasure by Twenty8Twelve alongside neutrals for a fresh spring look."

{DKNYC Woven Wedge Sandals, $150}
Zoe's comments include, "Swap out your snoozy summer sandals for these groovy leather and raffia wedges."

shoulda put a ring on it

When it comes to jewelry, I love vintage and I love heirlooms. Despite how beautiful the piece of jewelry may be, the story behind it can truly be the most stunning feature about it. I've shared with you before (here) the up and coming designer lines over at QVC that carry quite the potential, but lately I've come across something I love even more...
...product lines based on the actual pieces of jewelry worn by fabulous persons of the past. This ring comes from the Jacqueline Kennedy Collection which includes beautiful simulations of some of her favorite and most notable pieces made with real gemstones and of quite a high quality (guaranteed not to fade or discolor). This ring, specifically, caught my eye. Ruby happens to be my birthstone and I've really been wanting to invest in a staple piece that had some personal meaning to it. What I really loved about this ring, though, is that my absolute favorite Aunt owns a similar ring but with a sapphire instead of a ruby. (I know what your thinking, a certain well-known princess by the name of Kate has an identical sapphire engagement ring...but my Aunt and I will swear on our deathbeds that her heirloom ring inherited from her great-Aunt was well in circulation pre-Princess Diana, now Princess Middleton). A gift from husband Aristotle Onassis, the story behind this Jackie O. wedding ring was enough to send me over the edge into seriously considering purchasing this little number!

reese + april 2011 vogue

This April 2011 cover from US Vogue is PURE glamour. Reese looks stunning and seems to be channeling a bit of "Water for Elephants"-esque mystery that her character provides in her new movie, soon to be released! I am about as excited for this cover to be released as I am for the movie...which, believe you me, is quite a lot of excitement for one girl to express! Love Reese's golden, vintage-styled locks, love the black and white circus-inspired gown, and absolutely love the spring/soon-to-summer vibe this brand new cover provides!

*Side note: (But not any less important!) I would like to send my sincere thanks and gratitude to Julie over at Brown Eyed Belle for featuring [Midwestern] Chic in one of her recent posts! I truly love what I do here at [Midwestern] Chic and having the opportunity to share what I love! Every blogger has to start somewhere and Julie has definitely given me the boost in confidence and publicity that I am so grateful for! Thanks Julie!

coachella 2011

I have a total fashion tug-of-war going on in my mind about every second of every day...classy prep versus bohemian chic. On the one hand, I absolutely ADORE my structured button downs and classically tailored blazers and skirts from the likes of J.Crew, Lilly, French Connection and countless others. On the other hand I am simply enamored with the native american-vibed maxi dresses, oversized chunky sweaters and vintage floral patterns on anything from establishments like Urban Outfitters and Free People. Most of the time, I must say the "classy prep" side of my fashion brain comes out on top. However, for specific special occasions like Coachella 2011, I can't help but to embrace the "hippie, bohemian chic" side of my fashion bran that is simply begging to be seen! ...And I must say the celebs came out in full fashion force this year at Coachella with just enough of a 'hippie-bohemian' vibe to make you lust over their ensembles...without crossing the line of 'homeless and tattered' that can occasionally be spotted at events like Coachella. Here are my favs from this year:
{Diane Kruger with boyfriend Joshua Jackson}
{Isabel Lucas}
{Teresa Palmer}
{Camilla Belle}
{Alessandra Ambrosio}

be sweet to your feet

I went out to dinner twice this weekend, dressed up for both occasions, and sister let me tell you my feet were killing me! I made the mistake of wearing the same 5 inch heels two nights in a row. Extremely precious, gray suede Vince Camuto pumps, mind you, so 'no pain no gain'....but two nights in a row is definitely where I went wrong. The good news is that a simple and quite fashionable solution is right within my reach (and the reach of anyone else that can relate to my "beauty is pain" mantra)! This season has provided women everywhere with quite comfortable shoe options, including the wedge and flat sandal. Give yourself a chic boost in height and pair wedges with your favorite jeans and top or put a pair of sandals with jeweled flair on those feet of yours that are peeking out from under your maxi dress! Here are some of my favorite options so far...
Sweet Feet
Sam edelman sandal
235 EUR -

Knee high wedge boot
$100 -

House of Harlow 1960 strappy sandal
$371 -

Nine west flat
$89 -

A sweet guy friend of mine from home just introduced me to the word: "fraturday"...and I simply couldn't pass up the opportunity to use it for a Saturday morning post! Let's face it, having been born in raised in the Midwest and a current resident of the South (going on 9 months now...) there is nothing I love more than a super fratty young man with flawless manners who knows how to dress, bow tie and all. And when I think bow tie, what's the first thing that pops in my mind? Vineyard Vines, no question. The mecca of prep has plenty of new arrivals to get you and your man geared up and outfitted fabulously preppy for spring! (If you happen to be planning on attending the 2011 Kentucky Derby then you're in luck as well! Vineyard Vines has been named "The Official Style of the Kentucky Derby", so head on over and find some fabulous pieces to make your May 7th wardrobe race ready!)

Friday, April 15, 2011

As Friday rolls around once again, my mind is just reeling with all the things I have yet to accomplish! ...Yet to accomplish in the next few hours...yet to accomplish tomorrow...yet to accomplish 5 years from now. It's easy to get caught up in my day-to-day routine that is keeping me sane but the problem with that is- one or two unplanned events that get added to my itinerary set off a chain-reaction of uncontrollable calamity. If I've learned one thing already in this new year (which by the way has FLOWN! April already? Goodness...), it's that there are some afternoons where sitting back, watching Sex & the City, and indulging in the occasional gummy bear is just the ticket that will get you on the train back to sanity. TGIF!

*Side Note: If you're lusting over this fashionable photo as much as I am, I am proud to say it was taken by my incredibly talented (and fashionably fabulous herself) cousin Jennifer Coudron! Check her out here!

closet freak...part two

Okay, when I originally posted "Closet Freak" I honestly had no intention of posting any further on the amazing, to-die-for closets featured over at The Coveteur (originally The Coveted), for that you can simply head on over to their site yourself! But, in popping in the other day to see who they had added, the minute I saw the headline "Sarah Brown: Beauty Director, Vogue. New York" I knew I had something that would be simply too good to pass up sharing! Turns out, well I was fashionably in awe and there was absolutely no stopping me from posting this. If you want Brown's bio, which is well worth the read I might add, head on over here. Otherwise, don't move a muscle and take a peek and what I've got. (Finders keepers...)

peek-a-boo calypso

Remember when I posted this? Well, hold your breath no more because, while the collection is still yet to appear in stores, the images from Calypso St. Barth's line for Target have finally been released! The collection will not be out in stores until May 1 (just a little longer ladies, we're in the final stretch!) and I have to be honest, I may have held my expectations a little high for this one, yet again. First LC by Lauren Conrad, now Calypso. I guess I've simply been too entranced by CSB's high-end collection that I was hoping and praying for pieces a little too-similar. The following photos are my favs and, well, kind of the only pieces I would even consider wearing out of the rest of the options. I'm going to stay positive about this one, though, because word on the street is an accessories and home collection will be arriving to stores in tandem with apparel so a flicker of light at the end of the tunnel may still remain!

One of my favorite things right now is the shift dress. So easy- throw it on, grab a bracelet and a handbag and you're out the door! There is something about simplicity in structure that makes a statement in itself. Pair the shift with a fabulous and equally as structured handbag or clutch and you're ready to hit the town!

Move over perfectly symmetrical, clean-cut gemmed jewelry- there's a new kid in town. The geode has become a popular addition to the edgy, atypical jewelry already out there; The kind of jewelry you go for when you simply want to wear something different, something less predictable. By definition, a geode is a geological rock formation with internal crystals. You can find geode jewelry in a variety of colors and the best part? No two are exactly alike! What girl can turn down a piece of jewelry that is one of a kind! Rings, earrings, pendants, you name it- the geode has officially made it's way onto the jewelry scene.

cota lust

Ever since I set my eyes on what Selena Gomez wore to the 24th Annual Kids' Choice Awards on April 2nd (reference the second image above), I almost fell over. It took me approximately .5 seconds to start researching the Spring 2011 collection for Christian Cota...and this is what I came up with. (The fact that I didn't come across this collection sooner utterly shocks me). The sheer, pastel hues in combination with the ingenious way the fabric is dyed and draped is enough to make a girl swoon. ...TWICE. The definition of feminine chic. Dying.

celebs at their best : volume III

Here are my picks for celebs that have been coming out in full-force style lately...
Sweet Selena. She has finally mastered the art of dressing to impress, without looking too out of her age-range. I am so obsessing over the Matthew Williamson Patchwork Cotton Blend Corset top she is sporting...and is that a hint of neon trim I spy? So on trend.
Jennifer Hawkins always looks stunning...that is, whenever you can spot her of course! The girl seems to know how to stay out of the limelight whenever she feels like it! But boy, do I wish I knew where this dress and complementing accessories were from. Black+gold+blush pink=color combo perfection.
When I first glanced at this picture, the song "Girl's Just Wanna Have Fun" immediately came to mind. These three fabulous girlfriends simply radiate beauty and happiness. Candace Swanepoel, Alessandra Ambrosio, and Adriana Lima...I know Victoria's Secret is counting their blessings!
Last but never, ever least...well, is it inevitable that Olivia shows up for every "Celebs at Their Best" blog edition? Probably. Better question- is it inevitable that OP shows up for every blog post, period? Definitely not out of the realm of possibility...I simply can't help it! The girl is the definition of style, what can I say? She'll keep you guessing 'til the end of time and she never fails to pull out an ensemble that wows.

And that's a wrap, everybody. On to the next...
