The red carpet at the 2011 Oscars was flooded with plenty of jewel encrusted gowns and pops of color (especially red) or shades of nude. Always a greatly anticipated afternoon of fashion, the stars were out with a rather consistently stable sense of style given their body type, the occasion, etc. There were two dresses in particular that absolutely stuck out to me in an incredibly chic way- they were simply architecturally sound. While they were not list topper's for anyone the day after, Gwyneth Paltrow and Cate Blanchett were subtly stunning, in my opinion, in a sense that was in no way cliche or too understated. In a metallic gold Calvin Klein Collection gown, Gwen was the perfect celeb to pair with it's sleek and simple-lined structure. Cate's Givency Couture gown I thought was beautifully architectured; admittedly, I know it will by no means be everyone's cup of tea, but there's something to be said for well-thought out construction and intricate detail of the gold and lavender beading and bodice.
