the countdown is on!

the countdown is on!The new year is swiftly approaching and I think almost every style blogger out there has posted (or will be posting) their New Year's projected ensembles...so I couldn't resist to join in on the fun! While many New Year's Eve's are spent out and about in the city somewhere, there are those who choose to have more of an understated, low-key evening. Don't misunderstand me, I love a little sparkle and a party as much as the next girl, but this year with a few friends out of town or spending the night with fam, I'm more likely going to find myself ringing in the New Year curled up by the fire with a few close friends and a few bottles of wine (not that I'm complaining). With that said, my styled ensembles for the evening were concocted with more of that thought in mind...then again, I one can only be so understated...

2012 with bhati beads

Ooh, I am just so excited for the new year and the going-to-be fabulous neon hues it will bring with it! Not sure how willing I am going to be in terms of investing in 'main event' pieces, like a dress or bag, as it is still unclear how unbreakable this trend is going to be...but these neon-hued lariat style bracelets from Bhati Beads are sure to be a hit. Look out for these babies, worn on a wrist near you soon I'm sure!

brown paper packages

The sweet Sound of Music tune "My Favorite Things" is one that is played over and over in my house during the holiday season. Gift-giving is one of the best feelings of the season, in my opinion, and although the American Christmas has overgrown and over-materialized, I think the original meaning and intent of giving is genuine. Something small and sweet, simply to show those you love and care about how much they are loved and appreciated by you. The gift itself may get all the glory, but I think the wrapping is just as important! I'm not a fan of generic wrapping paper, my favorite gifts- no matter what lies inside- are those with intricate wrapping and ribbon detailing. Putting a little extra thought into how your gift is presented only makes it that much better!

"one size fits all" gifts

' one size fits all ' gifts
Gift-giving is all wonderful and fabulous until...you reach the one or two people on your list that leave you desperately clueless. It's as if Santa's sleigh has come to a screeching halt and the GPS directing you to the perfect gift has all of a sudden lost all satellites. Well, wallow in your cluelessness no more! I've compiled a few things that are sure to leave even the toughest of gift-ees on your list joyful this holiday season! I refer to them as the "one size fits all" gifts, and the idea here is simple; earrings, scarves, nail polish, fun coffee table reads- you name it! All of these fabulous gifts will always fit your recipients so size or fit is one less thing for you to worry about. Plus, with prices starting at just $8 you really (really) can't go wrong!

'tis the season...

...for gifting the ones you love! I know it sounds a little cheesy, but gift-giving has always been something I've enjoyed. These days, whether you have a steady paycheck or have a rather large hole burning its way through your pocket, the art of gift-giving has adapted with many crafty and DIY ideas sure to suit any income! If you're low on spare change this holiday season, try gifting a baked goodie or even $5-10 gift card to a local favored coffee shop (because who doesn't love a delightful cup of coffee complements of you)! Are there any gift ideas out there that are simply too fab to share??

more bounce in california

This past weekend was just delightful, I tell ya. Friday afternoon I flew out to LA to see my sweet, beautiful galpal Hannah who's in school at USC. Hours later, the rest of the sweet ladies arrived and our fabulous girl's weekend commenced! One In & Out burger, day trip to Venice Beach, wine and tapas bar and an ATO registered later (and the massive bruise to prove it!) and we were immersed in all that Los Angeles night life had to offer. I am IN LOVE with the LA experience and found it rather (and somewhat surprisingly) difficult to leave. So blessed to have had spent time in such a wonderful city with such sweet friends!

banded python

Leopard dominated last year, and while it still retains a strong presence on the retail floor this winter, it's python and snakeskin's time to shine! Each season almost always has an animal, floral, or patterned print accompanying the dominating color story and this season, the slithering reptile is taking the stage. My personal preference leans toward the more natural-toned skins as opposed to the neon greens and bright blue hues. Don't get me wrong, I'm certainly a girl who loves a pop of color...but when that pop of color involves a very unnatural looking, somewhat unsightly animal skin- I draw the line. A natural-toned python print is so fun to layer and play around with other textures like the black leather and suede contrasts pictured here!

I have been truly taken by all of the fine jewels over at Tacori for some time now, so when I saw that M Loves M was doing a Tacori giveaway I downright almost passed the flip out. To say this ring is absolutely gorg is, well, an absolute understatement. We're looking at rose gold+smokey quartz+diamonds...are you kidding? Entering was a no brainer and you can be a part of the fun too! Simply visit M Loves M and follow suit. Here's to diamonds, fabulous baubles from Tacori, and a little luck...

friday lull

One T-DAP, flu shot and stress fracture later, needless to say I have been less than myself this week. This is one of those Fridays that I need for the sake of my mind and my body. Not to mention the fact that this walking boot on my left foot had left me less than fashionable and utterly more clumsy than usual, bleh. Here's to a weekend full of de-stressing and recovery for all!

subtle transition

subtle transition

As Halloween falls further and further behind us, we are that much farther into the Fall season while fast approaching the Winter season and all that it entails, including the much anticipated holidays! If you meander by any retail store this time of year, they're always jumping the gun and putting together countless faux Christmas trees and holiday garland. For most, the sight of such actions is enough to make you cringe so I thought it a fun idea to hunt down a color scheme that would make the transition into the holiday season a little easier and a lot more subtle. It didn't take long to stumble upon the Winter-Holiday nail polish collection by OPI's Burlesque theme and I was immediately inspired! The dusty rose and army green shades with a dash of gold sequined glamour is the perfect way to prep your holiday style while not losing touch with the earthy, rich-spice tones of color hot this fall! Thoughts?

oh so posh

If I could keep saying "I love this, I love this, I love this" over and over without driving you madly away from this blog, I would. (And with the wonders of copy and paste in this technological day and age, that wouldn't be too difficult...) Okay fine, I won't. BUT, I'm telling you, that is how much I am raving (lusting, dying, etc.) over Victoria Beckham's RTW line. Already set to gross £60 million this year and climbing, Posh has earned her way into the fashion empire and has proven she is there to stay (as if she hadn't already with that fabulous style of hers). Retailing from $450-$1250, no different than other VB pieces of past seasons, the dresses would be a bit of an investment...but we all know the inside label might as well say "In Victoria We Trust" as you'll be walking confidently in any Beckham piece for years to come without one doubt in mind as to how fabulous you look. So foolproof. Celebs such as Eva Longoria have already been styled in one of VB's RTW frocks for recent red carpet appearances, even Victoria herself sports one of her stunners (almost) on the daily.

knitwit

While we're having a freak week of 80+ degrees where I live (welcome to the Midwest, ya'll), cold weather is surely right around the corner for all of us! In fact, we had a sneak peek of it here the past two weeks with low 40s in the mornings and evenings, which is why I've been stocking up on knit sweaters! Nothing feels more cozy than a knit sweater over leggings or skinnies (and boots, oh so lovely), and this season there's even more fun colors and textures to choose from! All of my favorites thus far have been neutrals (shocking...) but I've seen plenty of darling styles in popping fall brights- loving all the shades of spice and berry that I've come across! What's your go-to cold weather style this season?

(Shocking, I know). But I've never been one to pass up the opportunity to share Olivia Palermo's recent and most fabulous whereabouts with you! Here she is at a Talent Store opening in  in Fidenza, Italy looking oh so chic in her fur vest, patterned blouse and sheer skirt! And folks, OliviaPalermo.com has finally launched. Yes, yes it has. It's amazing. You'll spend hours there like I did and it will be the best way you've spent your free time in a long time. Advice and styling tips galore! Ah, swoon.

yes capes! (sorry edna...)

Shout out to Edna from The Incredibles ("no capes!" ring a bell?), only movie I've ever had to watch while babysitting and mildly enjoyed. (...Also, only cartoon movie I will probably every reference on this blog. Be thankful.)

Moving right along, it's been hard to ignore the runway trend that has crept up this fall and been commercialized to almost every department store and retail chain in the country, THE CAPE. I was skeptical for about 1.5 seconds, then remembered my love for all things fashionably-baggy (Shout out #2: Rachel Zoe!) and jumped right on board.
First seen on the Fall/Winter 2011 runway, this one specifically memorable from Rag & Bone RTW Fall/Winter 2011, but also including the likes of DKNY and Chanel, the cape was represented quite well. It didn't take long for most brands to market their own, unique cape design and here are a few I've seen thus far- the first being from Ann Taylor LOFT (which I happened to snag today for a mere $45, originally priced at $108) and the second two from one of today's Ideeli sales (French Connection followed by Renn)! Hot off the runway, the cape is definitely trending!
